The finance council became mandatory in parish churches after the Second Vatican Council. The pastor is obliged to appoint a group of at least three members of the Christian faithful. The emphasis for membership is on financial or legal expertise.
Members are named for three year terms with the possibility of being named for a subsequent three years.
The function of the council is to be consultative to the pastor. The council advises him on financial matters and helps to prepare and monitor the budget. The council also assists in the preparation of the annual financial report to the diocese. The council is charged with keeping the financial administration of the parish in harmony with the pastoral mission of the parish; however, the pastor is the ultimate decision maker on financial matters.
Members: Howard Lowry (chairman), Barbara Steger (secretary), Ron Alling, Marlene Carper and Becky Halaska.
Meetings: Quarterly, on the 4th Wednesday of the months of January, April, July and October, at 8:00 AM in the parish hall.
